Blonde eyelashes are common among natural blondes and redheads. They may seem transparent and may blend in depending on the individual’s skin type; a swipe of mascara makes a world of a difference. What determines if someone will have blonde eyelashes, and are blonde eyelashes rare?
Blonde eyelashes are not rare for natural blondes and redheads, but they are in comparison with dark hair. To have blonde lashes, the natural hair color must be extremely light; brown and black lashes are more common, seen on individuals who have dirty blonde, chestnut, or black hair.
When someone has blonde eyelashes, normally all of their bodily hairs are blonde as well, such as arm hair, eyebrows, and the hair on their legs. This is due to the genetics of each individual, their heritage, and may vary as they grow older.
Why They Are Considered Rare
Blonde eyelashes are not rare to some people who have naturally light colored hair. However, according to statistics, only about 2% of the world’s population has naturally blonde hair. This shocking percentage may be surprising to some, but the majority of ‘blondes’ seen on the everyday are dyed or bleached.
People with blonde eyelashes often complain of how it is difficult to visualize their eyelashes when they are not wearing any makeup. Their appearance can be stressful, since they tend to blend in. On people with light eyelashes, the eyes as a whole seem to be smaller because all that is visible are the eyelids, and not the lashes. Eyes tend to seem puffy as well, since eyelashes act like natural frames that overline the eyes – since society is accustomed to this appearance, someone with lighter lashes may seem a bit surprising. However, it is a perfectly normal trait that just has to do with each individual’s authentic hair tonality.
Cosmetic Suggestions For Blonde Eyelashes
There are a series of tips and tricks made for individuals who have very light, fair, and hard to see eyelashes which can help enhance their appearance to frame the eyes. Consider the following suggestions:
- Tightlighting: This technique consists of filling in the space between each eyelash with a dark eyeliner, to make the lash line more visible and defined. It is recommended to do so using a gel liner formula. Lift your upper lashes using your fingers, and gently apply a small amount of the product in the small separations between each eyelash. Next, repeat the process on the bottom lashes. This alone will greatly change the visual appearance of light lashes.
- Voluminous mascara: Coating the lashes with a thick layer of a voluminous mascara is the best way to enhance their appearance. For a more natural look, choose a brown toned mascara. For a more dramatic finish, choose a stark black shade. Either color will elevate your lashes and really make a difference in the way they are perceived. Apply mascara using a ‘zig zag’ motion to coat every area and make the lashes appear fuller.
- Heated eyelash curler: A trick to making lashes look naturally more defined, is to curl them using a heated eyelash curler. Take a basic eyelash curler and gently heat it up using a blow dryer. Blow on the curler for around 30 seconds using high heat, and then carefully curl your lashes without touching the lid. Be very careful since the heated tool could burn your skin, so make sure to only come in contact with the lashes.
- Be gentle when removing eye makeup: Lighter lashes are hard to see when they are bare, so make sure to take good care of them so as to not affect the ones you have and keep them in the best condition possible. Use a gentle eye makeup remover and a cotton swab and gently pat the eye area to remove.
