Salice Rose has become one of the most influential people on Instagram, with a current following of 22 million online. She is praised for her fun attitude and humour, but also for her long, curled, and thick lashes. What mascara does Salice Rose use?
In 2017 Salice Rose published a youtube video showing her eyelash routine. The video racked up 3 million views, and Salice explained her step to step process. She mentioned that she does not have a favorite mascara, and never will; she always likes to try new products and switch up her routine.
Even though Salice did not name a specific mascara that was her favorite, she explained her routine and process to achieve her long, full, thick looking eyelashes.
Routine Step 1
Salice begins the video by using an eyelash curler, before anything else. She mentioned that she does not care much about where her products are purchased, as long as they do the job. She spoke about how even though she purchases many cosmetics from both Sephora and Ulta, she prefers to shop for the basic tools at drugstores such as Walmart and CVS Pharmacy. Her eyelash curler is a drugstore, inexpensive product, which she claims works perfectly well.
She opens her eyes widely, and using a face mirror, attaches the curler on the lashes. She then repeatedly opens and closes the device to create a significant curl. She then does something which caused a frenzy among her fans and viewers; she pulls the eyelash curler towards the outer corner, while the device is still clamped on the lashes. This pulls her eyelashes taught and out, which she requires for her ideal curl shape. She later states that she does not recommend her followers to do the same, as the procedure could be dangerous and could cause you to pull out lashes.
Routine Step 2
She then moves on to applying her mascara. As previously stated, Salice does not have a favorite mascara. In her own terms, mascara works equally well whether it is drugstore or high end. One thing she does make sure of, is to avoid waterproof mascaras of any brand. She claims waterproof mascara formulas rip off your eyelashes and warns others to stay away from it. When applying her mascara, Salice widely opens her eye, places the brush where the lashes meet the eye, and gently yet firmly strokes up in a continuous ‘side to side’ motion.
Next, Salice allows the mascara layer to completely dry. She states that she likes to combine mascaras, and that the next layer will be with a different one. Again, she talks about how the mascara itself does not matter, but what matters most is the technique by which it is applied. She re-curls her lashes which are now dry, and presses them back using her fingertips. This results in extremely lengthy, curled lashes.
She then applies the second mascara layer using a ‘side to side’ motion, starting from the bottom, and moving up and towards the eyelash ends. She then repeats the process consistently; sometimes she is satisfied with 2 rounds, while other times she is not satisfied until she completes between 5 to 7 rounds. It all depends. The trick is to fully allow the mascara to dry in between layers, and then build up the product on top.
Salice Rose did not mention her favorite mascara in the video, but she did name a few locations where she purchases many of her beauty and cosmetic products; CVS Pharmacy, Walwart, Sephora, and Ulta. While many makeup users swear on a favorite mascara, Salice claims it is not about the quality of the product, but everything is based on technique. In the video she even claimed she could achieve the same end result using her little cousin’s ‘play’ makeup. Test the theory by trying her routine, and seeing the end results yourself. Viewers must be careful when following her eyelash curling routine though, which could be hazardous.
